Black Friday

Black Friday

So occasionally I used to go out with my parents and my sister for black Friday and enjoy the silliness of it without getting too caught up in the crazy. However as I’ve gotten older, had a baby and currently another one on the way I’ve given up the black Friday madness for a while at least until the kids are a bit older. That did not however stop me from taking to the online sales. Our house is in dire need of an upgraded thermostat and we’ve heard so many wonderful things about the nest smart thermostat and being in charge of the bills and finances and trying to find every trick in the book to save a penny I’ve really been wanting one of these especially since we replaced our entire A/C and furnace this past summer. Our electric company always offers rebates on them but nothing like they were offering right now. We paid $79 for our new thermostat and I’m so excited! I’ll update you guys once Jim installs it and we learn how to use it, I’m far too stupid for our current thermostat or it’s far too outdated, not sure which?

We also got the latest model of the ninja coffee bar from kohls online for $85 plus $15 kohls cash. That’s an amazing deal since regular price it’s $199!!! We have been eyeing this little machine for a while too since our keurig is on the fritz and we’re trying to be a little more eco friendly in this house and forgo the k-cups (I know you can buy the reusuable filters which we have but t never quite turns out the same so this was the best for our family at least). You know you’re old and married when you get excited about your deals that involve thermostats and coffee makers LOL!

And as I’ve really been getting into fashion bloggers lately I followed some of their instastories and got an amazing deal on a pair of furry lined sneakers from payless for $19.99 that are a pretty good dupe for a pair of ugg brand sneaks that cost anywhere from $120- $150 so I’d call that a win too.

Next up Jim’s birthday; here’s a guy who never really wants anything or at least doesn’t vocalize any specific want. I do know he needs cologne and was considering getting him the brand 1 million. Anyobdy have any thoughts, likes, dislikes on that one?

Anyone else find anything good on black Friday? Whether it was in store or online. Know of any good cyber Monday deals (Santa still needs to do some shopping for the little guy)

Peace,

Ash

Holidays are off and running

So we’ve been able to start experiencing the wonder and joy of the holidays through the eyes of a 15 month old. And let me tell you, it is incredible. All the things that were almost washed from your childhood memory come flooding back as you see the excitement in your childs eyes as he sees a pumpkin or puts his hands inside the ooey gooey “ness” of it. Or when you put the Halloween display on the dining room table and he gets excited for every night when we go to turn it on, just so he can “see” it. (See is his favorite word right now).

When we took him trick or treating my heart was so full, not because I’d get to enjoy some of his candy but because he was just so excited to see all the kids and parents out all over the neighborhood dressed up, he was nearly running trying to keep up with his two cousins up to each house for his treat. He started catching on too, when people would hold the bowl out for him, he would pick a candy and drop it into his bucket. I’m not quite sure who had more fun, me or him. His excitement for all these new fun things gets me so ready to throw up the Christmas tree and light it up just so he can be amazed by its twinkling and sparkling.

I’m soaking up this motherhood journey one moment at a time and storing these moments in my archives forever. I’ve never felt a truer calling at this season in my life than to be a Mom and I just can’t get over how lucky I am to be raising such a wonderful little boy and can’t wait to start raising our second child in February.

Watching him reminds me to take a step back and enjoy the little things in life because as they say when we look back those will be the big things and I don’t want to miss one single second of it. I hope after reading this you too can try to find your childlike spirit this holiday season and enjoy all the little things that come with it.

Peace,

Naptime

Can we just talk about how satisfying it is the moment your 12.5 month old decides he is going to start taking naps in his bed. Not in bed with mom, not in the car, not on the couch with mom or dad but in his own bed?!? For those who don’t know nap time has always been a struggle for us with Emerson since day one. There were the newborn days where all he wanted to do was nap with his mama on the couch and that was fine but eventually it became immobilizing since he could nap upwards of 3 hours and then here I was stuck under a baby forced to watch tv or nap with him and do nothing else. “Nap when the baby naps” they say but have you seen the memes “I’ll do laundry when the baby does laundry”. That has basically been our lives with his naps. He coslept with us until about 6 months (not necessarily by choice but more out of necessity since we needed to keep our sanity somehow…a story for another post) and then we decided as a family it would just be easier to have him sleep in his own bed since at that point the days of the middle of the night feedings were nearly gone. He caught on pretty quickly to sleeping in his own room and has been sleeping through the night pretty much since then.

Thought naps would be the same, baby is tired I’ll rock him and place him in his crib and he would sleep for a few hours giving me some time to do other household chores. WRONG. He could be dead asleep and the moment we’d place him in the crib his eyes would ping open and he would wail. Hope against all hope he’d fall back asleep but he’d continue crying and if we would have let him I’m pretty sure he could have cried for hours so we resided to whatever methods worked as far as nap time and would occasionally come back to the crib situation hoping he would like it again. I’d say since he’s turned 1 it seems like daily he’s developing into more and more of a little person who knows his own needs and has his own agenda and part of that has included him napping in his crib finally. Thank Jesus! I love my son with every fiber of my being but it is nice to take those few moments to myself to collect or do chores, whatever it may be. To all those who have had great nappers from the jump just consider yourself lucky.

What are your nap stories, victories, losses, advice etc?

Peace,

Ash
